About Alexandra
I help people say goodbye.

Alexandra Dionisio
Author, End-of-Life Doula, Podcast Host
The simple version: I'm an author, podcast host, and end-of-life doula based in Los Angeles. I wrote a memoir called Learning to Say Goodbye. I host a podcast by the same name. I work with families – human and animal – facing death.
The real version is messier.
The Losses
Four people I loved died in quick succession. My mother, after a brief battle with cancer that we never properly talked about – she didn't want to acknowledge she was dying, so I played along. Two close friends, gone suddenly, no warning. And Kathrin, my best friend since childhood, killed in a car accident while I was on a stage in front of thousands of people in Dubai.
Four losses. Zero goodbyes.
Each death left words unspoken. Each goodbye I didn't get became a wound that couldn't heal properly because it never got tended.
The Transformation
I couldn't bring them back. I couldn't create the goodbyes I never got. But sitting in that grief, something shifted. I found Reiki – or it found me, through a series of breadcrumbs I learned to follow. I discovered I could work with energy in a way that helped people be present when presence felt impossible.
And then, terrified but called, I began volunteering in pediatric hospice.
I went from corporate strategy meetings to sitting with families as their children died. I learned to hold space for the unbearable. I discovered that there's profound beauty in those final chapters – beauty our culture desperately tries to hide.
The Work Now
Today, I help families create the goodbyes I never got.
Through my book, I offer a companion for anyone moving through loss – the book I needed when I was drowning and couldn't find one that spoke to me.
Through the podcast, I host conversations about death, grief, and spirituality – because the more we talk about these things, the better we live.
Through my doula work, I sit with families facing the unimaginable. I use End-of-Life Reiki to create space for connection when words fail. I help parents be present with their dying children. I help families say goodbye to beloved pets.
The Shoulder Critic
There's a character in my book called my shoulder critic – the voice of doubt that's been with me since childhood. He shows up dressed however he wants: business suit one day, fairy costume the next. The day I went to work with a dying teenager, he appeared in tiger-print Speedos carrying a unicorn floatie.
He's ridiculous. He mocks me constantly. And he's part of why I can do this work – because the doubt doesn't stop you. You just bring it along.
If you're here because you're facing something hard – a loss, a diagnosis, a goodbye you don't know how to say – I'm glad you found me. This is exactly what I'm here for.
Let's talk about the things we're not supposed to talk about.
“I tell myself I created this podcast to make death more accessible. But honestly? I just love learning about different perspectives on life's biggest mystery.”
